How I became a Certified Personal Trainer and what I plan to do with my certification.
I earned my Personal Trainer Certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). I took a three-year course at my high school which prepared us to take the test free of cost. I didn’t start studying the courses until September of 2022, the start of my senior year.
Would I have become a CPT if I had to pay for the courses and tests?
Most likely not. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have taken the courses for free because now I can earn more money through a side hustle/college job.
Was the course difficult?
Yes and no. The content was pretty easy to understand especially if you have gym/exercise background knowledge, but some of the tests can be confusing. Additionally, the final exam was quite different than all the practice tests.
In college, I plan on using the certification to work as a group fitness instructor at my college’s many gyms. I’m pursuing a degree in international business, so I plan on keeping my certification as a side hustle throughout my career. I don’t plan on pursuing a career in fitness/health full-time
